ParkWhere — Privacy Policy

Overview

ParkWhere ("the App") is a free parking availability tool for Melbourne, Australia. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the App collects and how it is used.

Data We Collect

1. Location Data

The App requests your device's location to:

• Show nearby parking bays on the map
• Calculate walking/driving directions to your destination
• Detect when you arrive near your destination (geofence monitoring)

Your location is sent to our server solely to query nearby parking data. We do not store, log, or retain your location on our servers.

2. Local Storage

The App stores the following data on your device only (never sent to our servers):

• Recent destinations (up to 2)
• Favourite destinations (up to 3)
• Active parking session timer

3. Search Queries

When you search for an address, your query is sent through our server to the Google Places API. We do not log or store search queries.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• No user accounts or personal information
• No email addresses, names, or phone numbers
• No analytics or tracking identifiers
• No advertising data
• No cookies

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• City of Melbourne Open Data — public parking sensor data (no personal data involved)
• Google Places API — address autocomplete and place details (governed by Google's Privacy Policy)
• Google Directions API — driving/walking ETA calculations (governed by Google's Privacy Policy)
• OpenStreetMap / CartoDB — map tiles (no personal data sent)

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share any user data with third parties. Location coordinates are transmitted over HTTPS to our server only for the purpose of returning nearby parking data, and are not retained.

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. The App does not require account creation or personal information from any user.

Data Security

All communication between the App and our server uses HTTPS encryption. No personal data is stored on our servers.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
